This Macbook with a Large Screen Will Save You P70,000

Last updated 1 year ago

Ever since I started working, I always choose a MacBook Pro with 15" to 16" screen for more display estate even though I'm only using it for coding, accounting, and marketing.

This means that I never use the GPU and my CPU is only running at 4% even at max usage.

Sample Max Usage with My MacBook Pro 16 Inch:

🧑‍💻 Apps Opened:

  • 3 Brave browser windows with around 10 total open tabs

  • 2 Terminals running a frontend app and an backend app

  • SQL Database connected to a Cloud Service

  • Spotify

🤯 Activity Monitor: 10.33GB RAM and only 4% CPU is used

That's P50,000+ down the drain. Unfortunately, you don't have a choice if you really want a large screen and stay on the Apple Ecosystem which are both non-negotiable for me.

I already owned 4 Macbook Pros 15" to 16" since I started working. That's P200,000+ of wasted money and that stops today.

Recently, my 2-year-old Macbook Pro 16" became headless. The screen stopped working but the body is still performing 100%.

Apple Store said it would cost me around P70,000 to fix it so the best route was to buy a new one.

Yes. I considered the Macbook Pro 14" as a great alternative but it was too small. A 15" screen or larger screen is always the sweet spot for me. That 1-inch makes a lot of difference.

Here's a size comparison between the Macbook Pro 14" and Macbook Air 15":

Finally! A bigger screen with only the performance you need.

🤔 Price Comparison

  • ₱156,990 - Macbook Pro 16" ➡️ Available at Beyond the Box

I think Macbook Air 15" will start to become popular with developers (upgraded model) and professionals/students (base model).

Here's my review after 2 weeks of using the Macbook Air 15":

🔋 Battery and Charger

  1. 18 hours of battery life This is legit! The laptop can last almost 2 days without charging

  2. Magnetic Magsafe is back

  3. A braided cord that matches the color of the laptop.

  4. 2 Charger Options (no additional cost for either of the two): - 70 watts - fast charger (This is what I chose) - 35 watts - 2 slots (for Macbook and iPhone or iPad)

🤔 Concerns

  1. Supports one 4K monitor only That's okay. I stopped my 3-monitor set-up. It was too distracting.

  2. Only 4 ports: - Magnetic Magsafe - 2 USBC - 1 headphone jack - Solution: Buy a hub or a dock

  3. Fanless Design I don’t think that’s a problem. We’ve been using a fanless design with the iPhone and I even edit my videos there.

  4. Less GPU Power I don't need it coz I don't edit intense videos, 3D rendering, or game development.

  5. Midnight Black is a Fingerprint Magnet! Although midnight black is my favorite color, please don't buy this yet as it is a fingerprint magnet. Almost all of the videos I watched rant about this issue. Wait for the materials to mature.

That ends the review!
